Day to Night

I'm so excited to be the first participant in Laura's new series, Day to Night! We have exactly the same skirt, so we decided to share two ways to style it, whether you're out running errands or going on a hot date!

I took the daytime look and chose to pair my skirt with a boyfriend style jacket and espadrilles. Looking back, I should have worn flat sandals, but since the skirt is a bit long on me and I haven't been to the tailor, I wore wedges to add a little extra height. Ideally, I'd throw on my leather & glitter sandals!

Memorial Weekend Recap + My Favorite Maxi Dress

I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! Mine went by entirely too quickly :)

Friday evening we went out for Mexican and Saturday was spent enjoying downtown Memphis & cheering on the Grizzlies! Sunday we went to church, had an outdoor lunch, took the pups to the park, napped, & grilled steaks, and Monday, we ran errands, went to the movies, and went to the Majestic Grille to celebrate a secret accomplishment I can't reveal just yet :)

The weather was gorgeous and I kind of regret not spending every minute by the pool... What did y'all do on Memorial Day weekend?



This dress is already on heavy rotation and it's not even officially summer yet! I picked it up at a boutique in Charleston last year, and while it's a size too big, I just couldn't pass it up! I predict you'll be seeing a lot of it this summer!

Happy Memorial Day! Whether you're aboard a lavish houseboat party, attending a low-key barbecue, or simply spending time with family & friends, I hope you're having a great holiday! 

P.S. How flattering does this dress look? It would be perfect for so many occasions. For Memorial Day, I would let red take center stage, keep the jewelry simple, and stay cool in a large hat!

Candy Colored

Last Sunday was a beautiful spring day with blue skies and a slight breeze. Pretty weather always gets me in the mood to wear bright colors so I couldn't resist pairing my favorite neon shirt with turquoise and yellow! 

Are you getting tired of seeing these sunglasses yet? You must think I don't own any others. And you'd be right. I used to buy cheap sunglasses, but the first time I put these kate spade beauties on, my days of cheap sunglasses were over. The only problem is, I can't afford to have multiple pairs! Obviously I need these mint aviators!

Weekend Recap + Giveaway for $700 in Gift Cards!

I hope you guys had a wonderful and blessed Easter weekend. I know I did! My parents came to visit for the weekend, and we had so much fun spending time together. Friday afternoon, Tyler and I wanted to show them the house we'll be renting soon (Yes, we're moving! More details to come soon) so that was very exciting! We took them to Gus's Famous Fried Chicken for supper, and then stopped by Pottery Barn outlet on the way back home. Our furry children LOVED having their Lolli and Pop (yes I know... Mom's idea...) here and constantly begged for attention, treats, and toys. They always bring presents and Bella's smart enough to know that they've got things for her! Mom brought me a present, too... a pair of Jimmy Choos!!!

Saturday, we ventured out in the rain to shop at Saddle Creek, and eat at our favorite restaurant in Germantown: the Germantown Commissary (our favorite BBQ ever!).  Shopping with my mom is one of my favorite things and I always cherish the girl time we get to spend together since it's so rare these days. We went into most of the stores at Saddle Creek, but spent most of the time in Ann Taylor Loft. They have TONS of colorful spring things out right now (with 40% off storewide!), so naturally, my mom and I were lugging around armfuls of clothing to the dressing room while getting death stares from Tyler and my dad. I ended up leaving with a floral peplum top, a striped tee (can you ever have too many??), and the perfect boyfriend jeans. Sunday, we celebrated Jesus's resurrection at our home church here in Memphis, Island Community Church (P.S. If you're in Memphis, we'd love to have you!). It was an awesome time of worship and celebration, and we were so glad to have my parents there with us. We had lunch at the Spaghetti Warehouse (I'd forgotten how good it is!) before they had to head back to Alabama. Tyler and I enjoyed an afternoon nap with the kiddos and caught up on some TV shows we missed last week.

Emerald


When emerald was announced as Pantone's color of the year for 2013, I wasn't thrilled (I much prefer the honeysuckle and tangerine from recent years past). Since then, I've warmed up to the idea a little more and have found that I'm most drawn to fabrics and textures that allow the jeweled tone to shine, such as the patent heels, the metallic leather bag, the jacquard printed pants, or shimmery nail polish.

If you remember this post about J. Crew's new spring collection, you'll recall that I pinned a mint gingham shirt as one of my spring must-haves. While the J. Crew version was more than I was willing to pay, I later found its twin at J. Crew Factory for a much cheaper price, as documented in this post.

For weeks I've dreamed of ways to wear it and potential color combinations (I can't wait to pair it with pink or yellow for spring). This past weekend, as I looked in my closet and noticed an abundant amount of blue staring back at me, I decided to go for a monochromatic look with pale mint jeans, a cobalt blazer, and ombre chandelier earrings.

Pretty Pastels

In my closet, it's spring. Sadly, it's still winter outside. As a matter of fact, as I'm writing this, it's 40 degrees outside. Nevertheless, the groundhog says spring is coming, so its time to shop new spring arrivals and start incorporating pastels into your winter wardrobe! Annnnd go!

Evolution of Polka Dots

Paige $190 / J. Crew $98* / Gap $55* / Target $25

I knew I wanted needed a pair of polka dot jeans ever since I saw Paige's version on Shopbop. I wasn't about to drop $200, so I kept trying to find more inexpensive alternatives. I found as the price decreased, the dots became more and more subtle, which only makes them more versatile in my opinion. Of course I liked J. Crew's version, but I still wanted to look for cheaper options. I finally came across the pair from Gap and fell in love with them, and felt the price was reasonable. I tried them on in-store a couple weekends ago and just wasn't impressed with the fit, so back to the drawing board I went. Earlier this week, I went to Target to see the new Prabal Gurung collection (the Southaven store has a really limited selection, much to my dismay) but it was worth the trip because I found these polka dot jeans for only $25! The dots are subtle but noticeable, the fit was decent, and the price couldn't be beat! They wouldn't let me leave without taking them home with me, so I happily obliged.

De-Clutter Your Life (or at least your bedside table)

When my bedside table is clean and de-cluttered, I feel like my entire life is in order. There's just something about clutter that ensues chaos and simplicity that brings a level of psychological clearness. White is one of my favorite home decor colors because it's crisp and clean, simple yet elegant, and goes with everything (except puppies, I've learned). As Tyler and I have begun the long (never-ending) process of decorating our apartment, I've turned to white with pops of color (see: all white bedding and mint headboard). While cleaning the other day, I snapped a few photos of my bedside table in all its white glory.

Prabal Gurung for Target

My heart skipped a beat when bold florals and neons flooded my Instagram feed last week from the Prabal Gurung for Target at NYFW. The collection launched this past Sunday, but instead of showing up at Target first thing Sunday or shopping online at midnight like all the other fashion crazies, I waited until Monday to visit a Target. And of course, I was one day too late to get the floral jacket I wanted. I only wanted ONE thing, people! And it's out of stock. There is one location within reasonable distance that has "limited stock", whatever that means, but I'll take that as a green light. Wish me luck!
